Birruty Studio is the passion project that began to develop while I was still teaching kiddos. Inspiring kids to express themselves and create something engaging and personal was the highlight of working in K-8 art for 7 years.
Whenever we would do clay projects, I would get so excited dreaming up meaningful projects and creating the work, then helping students make their vision come to life. Bonus: Having access to a kiln of such great power and size (and sometimes many problems) was a great privilege and I couldn’t help but start firing a few pieces here or there with my students work.
I acquired my very own pottery wheel in 2017 after a friend recommended I buy her Brent that she found at an estate sale. Years later, I would decide to use my tax return, or maybe also my stimulus check, on a baby skutt kiln. At this point, I was committed and it was evident that I had been fully ‘bit by the mudbug’. I have kept up my practice since then, which definitely escalated during time spent safely at home beginning in spring of 2020.
I’m loving this part of my journey as an artist. Thank you to everyone who has supported me in any way: purchasing my work, attending markets to visit, sit with me, and especially help me in some way, serving as a professor at UNT or teacher at CAC to me, sharing my work with others, or letting me use your tiny extra garage as studio (hi dad!).
